The Catch Up: December 2024

The Catch Up: December 2024

Happy New Year! Is it too late to say that?

How are you feeling about the return to work after the festive season? I for one am not feeling quite as refreshed as I had hoped. If I’m honest, December felt like one month too much for me and I think I’m still recovering. Between looming deadlines and a sick toddler, I woke up every morning feeling like I was racing the clock. I ended the year short of my expectations- and utterly burned out.

As a founder and a new parent time has taken on a completely new meaning. Returning to work full-time in September after maternity leave meant that I had a fraction of the time I usually do to work on the business last year. Yet for some insane reason (because I needed to prove something after having a baby) I set an ambitious goal to grow sales by 60% in 2024. This meant I entered December with one hell of a shortfall to make up, and it's no surprise that we didn’t manage it.

But here’s what I’ve learned: every setback is an opportunity to grow. The biggest lesson? Give myself a bit more grace. These past two years have been unconventional, to say the least. While the business may have survived rather than thrived, I’m grateful to be able to return to a job that I’m really passionate about.

I’m starting 2025 brimming with ideas and a renewed commitment to investing in myself. For me, that means small changes, like putting my phone down more often, scheduling time for myself, and actually eating three meals a day. It also means bigger steps, like feeling the fear and doing it anyway, learning new skills, and finding a mentor. Whilst these efforts won’t give me more hours in the day, I’m hopeful they’ll help me strike the balance I’ve been searching for.

Now it’s time to get my planning hat on- my favourite thing to do. I’ll be back next month to update you on what’s coming up in 2025- I have a feeling it’s going to be our best year yet!

Here's to a fantastic year ahead!
