The Catch Up: June 25
I hope you've been enjoying the sunny weather! With the end of June marking the halfway point in the year, I thought this would be a good moment to check in on how I’m getting on with the goals I set myself in January. So here’s a brutally honest look at where things are at.
WORKING ON MYSELF/ MY MINDSET
GOAL: Prioritise self-care, understand where my mindset is holding the business back.
This being my first full year back at work after having my daughter (and navigating the identity shift that comes with becoming a mother), this was a big priority for me heading into 2025.
In some ways, I’d say I’ve made real progress. I’m back in therapy and managing to take a long walk most mornings, something that sets my day up really well. In other ways, this has been the hardest goal to tackle. I’ve realised that my identity is still too tied up in the business, and I’ve felt a lot of stress and overwhelm as a result. I also haven’t taken more than 48 hours off all year... which hasn’t helped.
ACTION: Book proper time off. Work on separating my identity from the business. Prioritise wellbeing and reduce stress. Find more joy in my work- it’s not that deep!
WORK SMARTER NOT HARDER
GOAL: Spend 80% of my time doing the 20% of things that will have the biggest impact.
This one is essential for growth, yet it’s probably where I’ve struggled the most. I’ve been spending far too much time on admin tasks that don’t move the needle, and I keep getting sidetracked by new opportunities. Meanwhile, I’m putting off the big, meaningful tasks (some of which have been on my list forever) because they feel overwhelming.
Ironically, one of those long-standing tasks is finalising my newsletter flows, which is exactly the kind of automation that would free up more time.
ACTION: Outsource more. Focus on one big task at a time.
COLLABORATION/ ASKING FOR HELP
GOAL: Utilise my existing network & find a mentor.
This is one I’ve actually been pretty consistent with, and the impact has been really positive. I launched my WhatsApp community, The Hoop, which feels like having both a board of directors and a group of cheerleaders in my pocket- a huge win. I’ve also been putting myself out there more, both offering and receiving support, which has felt great.
While I haven’t found a mentor yet, I’ve just joined a peer-to-peer founders group, which I’m really excited about.
ACTION: Keep nurturing The Hoop. Keep searching for a mentor. Keep putting myself out there. Connection = big win.
GROWTH/ THE NUMBERS
GOAL: Double sales, double website traffic, and average 3,000 new website visitors per month.
With “growth” as this year’s word, the numbers really do matter, so how are they looking?
Sales are up 70% so far this year, website traffic is up 40%, and we’re averaging 1,800 new users per month. So, while we haven’t hit our goals yet, we’ve made great progress, and Q4 (the golden quarter) is still to come. I’m feeling optimistic about what’s ahead, though there’s plenty of work to do.
ACTION: Be more consistent with organic marketing. Finish setting up our marketing funnel. Launch new products. Tweak the website to improve conversion rate.
This has been a really helpful exercise to see exactly where I’m at, and it’s left me feeling focused for the second half of the year. It’s also quite a nice place to land as the weather warms up and that summer urge to slow down creeps in- things are actually going better than I thought!
I’d definitely recommend doing a little mid-year check-in of your own. And as always, if anything resonated with you, let me know, or feel free to forward this to someone who might find it interesting.
You’re officially my accountability partner now… let’s see where we land by the end of 2025.
